ABS PH2 — Advanced Building Systems
Part 1 of 3 — Walls

A patented, interlocking dry-stack block that lays like Lego and performs like reinforced concrete.

Overview

ABS Blocks

Advanced Building Systems has spent considerable resources developing a proven system and a patented block that resolves the core problems facing conventional masonry: speed, skill dependency, seismic performance, and cost. ABS Blocks have been laboratory tested on numerous occasions for strength and load-bearing qualities, giving the system an earthquake and cyclone rating.

Key specifications

How the interlock works

Each block locks into the next, similar to a Lego brick, commonly referred to as a Dry Stack System. There is no cement required between joints during laying, which removes one of the slowest and most skill-dependent steps in conventional block-laying — and removes the inconsistency that comes with it.

Cost and weight

The cost of an ABS block is comparable to a local block — typically slightly cheaper — and lighter, due to its two core holes. Local materials are sourced the same way they would be for any local block: sand, cement, and aggregate. Filler materials of almost any variety can be added to reduce cost without affecting the integrity of the block. Adding Leca to the mix, for example, delivers a block that is considerably lighter with excellent thermal qualities, again without impinging on structural integrity.

Why it's faster on site

Straighter, truer ABS walls save considerable time and plaster during finishing — in most cases a spray-on render is all that's required, compared to the labour-intensive plastering conventional block walls demand.

Beyond the wall block

Paving blocks, interlocking pavers, and more.

The same dry-stack manufacturing line also produces a full range of paving and interlocking products:

  • Standard paving blocks
  • Interlocking pavers (I-profile & dogbone)
  • Hollow-core interlocking blocks
  • Custom profiles to your specification
